Romania is on the map of online politics
While in 2005/2006 I seemed to feed myself with fantasies, now I can say with all my heart that "Yes, we can", quoting and lifting to another level that old Romanian saying, pretty strange, to say the least, "Come on, you can do it! / Hai ca se poate". If back then I used to dream about things that might have been done, in a brighter future, now I can speak about things which already happened or that can be done for sure.
If we look around a little bit at what is going on all around the world and if we at least look at the amplitude of the events n United States, what we are doing now, by organizing this event, is definitely nothing new under the sun. I confess that the international events that inspired and convinced us that it is mandatory to do something similar in Romania, were:
- Politics Online Conference 2008 (March 4-5, 2008, Washington DC)
- The Future of Political Communications - Connecting with Young Voters (June 7, 2007, Washington DC)
- ::Politics: Web 2.0: An International Conference (April 17-18, 2008, London)
We have also been inspired by the quality of those people that are dealing with this kind of things in the United States and around the world. It would have been more than interesting, of course, to have brought other speakers, beside those from the United States or Europe, for instance, from China, India or the Arabic states. The phenomenon of online politics has for sure been seeded there too.
Our biggest joy, as organizing team, is that we will bring to Bucharest the so called "gods of the online politics", that we used to look up to in 2005/2006. They are the "guilty ones" for making this concept not only a trifle, but a phenomenon, a vital reality...And here I refer mostly to our guests from the United States, Phil Noble and Julie Barko Germany. You can see their valuable profiles, here, on the event's website, in the Speakers section. I will post other interesting articles about them.
The "funny" thing is that the Internet can really do good things in politics. This meaning that the politicians could use the Internet in order to communicate themselves better and to become more agreeable to the people when speaking to them, but also for ordinary people, who either expect something from the politicians or are trying to do something by themselves, without expecting anything, from anybody, because they only want things to happen faster and better.
Romania will get on the international map of online politics!
