About the Politics2.0 event

9/8/2008
Politics2.0 is aimed at generating expert discussions about online communication in the political frontline. In the first national conference of its kind, we will explore the needs and expectations of online constituents and their role in creating deep community change. It will take place on September 30, 2008, Intercontinental Hotel, Room Ronda. You can check the extended schedule of the event under the Agenda subsection of this website.

This is an exciting challenge for all the politicians and campaign staff who understand the power of the Internet - a medium that connects politics with the people on a one-to-one level, in a continuous, two-way engagement.

This conference will emphasize the new directions and opportunities in political marketing and communications, a direction that cannot run in isolation to offline campaigns, but will complement and change it in a truly compelling way. Politics2.0 will offer a 360° perspective on the subject, from end to end.

This event is addressed to all those who are passionate about the subject...politicians, decision makers, political communicators, public relations and communication experts, media consultants, strategists, campaign teams, journalists, bloggers, to those who already built a career in political communication and marketing, but also to those who want to make one. It is also addressed to all those who have a general interest in politics, in the Internet, communication etc.

The event refers mostly to the use of the Internet and all its components in electoral campaigns. But it is not all about this. Because things cannot change all of a sudden when the campaigns kick off. There has to be a culture and an environment favourable to the acceptance of this kind of campaign, and these things must be carefully and constantly prepared, for longer periods of time.

To embrace the changing face of political communications, a candidate must develop a proactive approach, using both traditional and progressive campaign tactics. Today, both primary and general elections must seamlessly combine several communication channels with intelligent metrics and impact measurement. At the heart of every successful campaign is the need for a dynamic and fully integrated communication strategy.

Digital Media is changing politics. The Internet has a powerful influence on the public's access to government, decision-makers and politicians while providing voters with insights into political life and campaigns.

The behavior of voters, the efforts of activists to circulate their messages, and the ways in which topics enter the public discourse are all being distributed instantly through new media.

The Internet offers a unique opportunity to truly interact with your constituents. Not only can you talk, but you can also listen - opening the door to strategic and engaging communications.

Politicians and activists must now learn to leverage technology to creatively grasp the opportunity in this new and flexible environment. They must be champions of online innovation in order to gain overall strategic and competitive advantage.

Political marketing and communications - or how to "sell" a political personality or party - is well on its way in Romania, as parties begin to realize the true potential in politically engaged online communities.

These are the basic details and the reasons of Politics2.0 - Winning the vote in the digital era. But, for sure, all our speakers and guests will have much more to say about all these things and many others.
